NEW DRONE REVIEW: DJI Mavic 2 Pro with the Hasselblad L1D-20c Camera

THE BUNDLE I RECOMMEND

I recommend this bundle for a few different reasons. First reason, Each battery lasts about 20-28 min, and this bundle comes with two extra batteries giving you three total, which is about 1h to 1.5hrs of flight time. The second reason, it comes with a ton of really important accessories like the car charger good for long trips, extra propellers, lens filters (ND 4, 8, 16, and CPL), a cleaning cloth, landing gear extension for tall grass, landing/takeoff pad, antenna reflectors to help boost the signal, 128GB SD Card, USB SD card reader to transfer photos and video, and a waterproof hard carrying case. I personally own all of these items and purchased all of them separately, which obviously cost me a bit extra. I do use all of these items when I need to.

KEY FEATURES

  • Hasselblad Camera

The Hasselblad camera is a very high-quality drone camera with 20 MP and a 1-inch CMOS Sensor. Much bigger and higher quality than the Mavic Pro. It uses Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) technology to provide extremely accurate colors for your photos and videos.

  • 10-bit Dlog-M Color Profile

The Mavic Pro 2 is equipped with a 10-bit Dlog-M color profile that provides a high dynamic range for more control over the colors when editing. It records over  1 billion colors compared to the traditional 8-bit’s 16 million colors. Not only that it captures more details in the shadows and highlights, this is great if you are shooting in sunrise and sunset settings.

  • HDR Video

Most drones offer 1080p video, which is okay for most people. The Mavic 2 Pro offers 4K with up to 10-bit HDR VideFo. The Mavic Pro 2 can be plugged into a 4K TV that will properly playback the video with very accurate colors! Most people prefer HDR due to the brighter highlights and increased contrast that really make the video POP!

  • Adjustable Aperture

The Mavic 2 Pro has an Aperture range from f/2.8 to f/11. For low light shooting, change the aperture closer to f/2.8. For well-lit environments, set the aperture closer to f/11.

Pros

  • Professional Quality

With 4k Video, HDR, 1in sensor, and 20mp Raw photo, the quality is plenty enough to create stunning photos and beautiful videos. This is a great drone for professional photographers and offers more features than you will end up using.

  • Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing

The obstacle avoidance will save your drone’s life when you are not paying attention or even if you accidentally misjudge the distance of a tree or building. After owning the drone for over two years I have only crashed it once into a tree. The obstacle avoidance is not perfect and struggles to detect small branches.

  • Return to Home

The return to home feature is awesome!!! It brings the drone back to the starting point when you press the home button, or than the drone’s battery is getting too low to continue flying. This helps prevent you from falling out of the sky with a dead battery.

  • 360 Photography

The Mavic 2 Pro creates beautiful 360 photos and stitches them together in the app, allowing you to capture big areas all around you and a cool new perspective. You can upload these photos to your Facebook page and Google My Business listing.

Here is a photo I took and uploaded to my Business Listing.

  • Hyper-lapse Photography

Create Really cool time-lapse/hyper-lapse photography.

  • HDR and AEB Photography

HDR (High Dynamic Range) produces a greater range of luminosity than what is typically possible with standard imagery creating a higher quality image. AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing) takes photos at multiple exposures and merges them together for a more evenly lit photo. This is especially good for low light conditions (sunrise and sunset) and bright conditions like middle-of-the-day shooting.

  • Panoramas

The Mavic 2 Pro comes with several different panorama options, Sphere which is the 360 panoramas, 180° panoramas, Vertical panoramas for tall structures, and Horizontal panoramas for wide areas where you just don’t have enough room to capture the whole subject.

  • Stabilization

The drone is extremely stable and can handle pretty strong winds, rain, and snow. I recommend being extremely cautious and careful about flying in dangerous weather. Just because it can handle the weather does not mean you should be flying it. Also, in stronger winds, the drone will compensate for the wind by tilting slightly, causing the horizon axis to be off. This can be corrected in post-production.

Cons

  • 31-min max. flight time

The flight time on this drone is approx 20 to 28 min from my experience. This is pretty low for a high-end drone and could be approved upon. I definitely recommend having multiple batteries and a car charger for on-the-go. I personally have five batteries, so I can manage multiple drone jobs in one day without running out of battery.

  • Does not zoom

The Mavic 2 Zoom was not as high of a quality drone but did have a cool zoom feature which they did not include in the Pro version.

  • More expensive

The higher quality drone with amazing features does come at a heavier price tag. I personally feel like the drone is well worth the price.

  • Occasionally has system problems.

I have had a couple of faulty drones in my two years of flying the Mavic 2 Pro. It has never malfunctioned during use, only before I go to take off or after a system update. This was an inconvenience but not dangerous. I recommend getting insurance with the purchase in case anything happens that is not your fault, than they will cover the cost of a replacement for you. Since it’s an expensive piece of equipment, it is a good idea to insure it anyway.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I recommend this drone and personally use it on a daily basis. The drone has insanely good quality, great features, and is super easy to operate. Make sure you purchase drone insurance with your purchase and extra batteries you will thank me later on.

I RECOMMEND THE PRODUCT TO

I recommend this drone to a professional photographer, videographer, YouTuber, and vloggers. Do not forget to follow your state and federal UAV/Drone laws for hobbyists and professionals.
